On Sunday, the All Mustang Club of Cortland lines up classic cars and hot rods of all makes at Lovell Field in Marathon at around 1 pm.
“It’s a rain or shine event,” said organizer Bill O’Gorman of the Mustang Club of Cortland. “If it’s raining, we’ll go a little slower, but the cars will shine better. Be in Marathon at Lovell Field or get your lawn chairs, pack a snack. Head over to Port Watson Street or Tompkins Street when the guys are coming through – up Route 11. Wave at ’em!”
O’Gorman told X101 you’re encouraged to grab a seat roadside and wave as they go by under police escort. He can help you with what to do when you see the sea of beauties at Cort-Lanes. “Walk amongst the cars. See the people. Shake their hands. Remember, these people do this because they love talking about their cars and bringing new people into the hobby.”
One thing you gotta experience at the car show? “When they start up, the electricity going from the battery to the starter brings thunder alive, and that thunder you can feel shaking in the ground and in your chest, and that is what these classic cars are about,” said O’Gorman. “Feeling. And getting the new people involved.”
This show is unique, according to O’Gorman. “It’s Central New York’s only moving car show. You start in one community on display. Then, you get in your cars and you drive up – and you have a rolling car show and your re-park in another community and then people come and visit there.”
Enjoy the music at Cort-Lanes,check out the cars and chat with the proud owners on Sunday afternoon.
