This information was provided by Tompkins Cortland Community College:

Ending a process that began several years ago, the Tompkins Cortland Community College Board of Trustees Thursday evening approved an agreement on a new contract between the College and the Tompkins Cortland Community College Adjunct Association.

The agreement, which the Adjunct Association has already ratified, is the first for the new union that represents more than 200 part-time teaching and part-time non-teaching faculty members at the College.

The two-year deal is retroactive to the start of the 2017-18 academic year and runs through the end of the 2018-19 year.

The timing of the ending of the adjunct contract is designed to coincide with the contracts of the College’s three existing negotiating groups so the College will be negotiating all of its union contracts at the same time.

Here are some of what the contract covers, according to information provided by the college:

  • A 2% per year increase in pay
  • The raise is the first for adjuncts since the 2013-14 academic year, which was the year before the process of forming the union began
  • The contract establishes a system of seniority for assigning courses to adjunct faculty
  • The contract also includes benefits that had previously been extended to adjuncts but never formalized, such as leave time for deaths in the family
