Volunteers Needed For Sunday Downtown Partnership Cleanup

Local News

An effort to cleanup downtown Cortland begins Sunday morning at 9 and could use a few more volunteers. “People are welcome to join us the day of,” said Jane Witty, Events Manager for the Cortland Downtown Partnership. “We have 13 sites located downtown, and nearly 70 volunteers so far. We’re meeting at Bru64 at 9 o’clock for some free coffee, before we head out.”

This is a focused effort to beautify downtown Cortland. “We’re going to do sidewalk to curb cleaning, sprucing up the sidewalks, getting rid of a few cigarette butts,” said Witty. “For those who wish to do a little digging and gardening, to help the Cornell Master Gardeners, we’re helping them to prepare the beds at Courthouse Park.”

A few more volunteers would help lighten the workload, according to Witty. “Well, we have 60 volunteers now. The jobs that we have out there require about a hundred, so if we could get a couple dozen more volunteers… if you’re not able to help with the cleanup and you’re driving through please yell thank you out the window to our volunteers, to encourage them.”

If you want to join in, email info@cortlanddowntown.com, or call 299-4682, or be at Bru64 at 9 am Sunday.
