New Chrissie Hynde Doc With Classic Pretenders Show Coming Out

Music News

Coming to DVD and Blu-ray on May 25th is the new documentary, Alone With Chrissie. The film, which was originally aired as part of the BBC TV Arena series, “follows the Pretenders’ lead singer as she shares an insight into her life. On a journey taking place in Paris, London, New York, Nashville and her hometown of Akron, Ohio, Chrissie takes the lead, avoiding the talking heads typically associated with documentaries to speak frankly about her passion for music, painting and the issues that matter to her most.”

In addition to the doc, the disc also features a bonus selection showcasing the original lineup of the Pretenders in July 1981 performing an 18-song set live in Cologne, Germany, which was filmed for Germany’s Rockpalast TV program. The performance — which features Chrissie Hynde, drummer Martin Chambers and late-co-founders, bassist Pete Farndon and guitarist James Honeyman-Scott — includes such early Pretenders classics as “Message Of Love,” “Talk Of The Town,” “Kid,” “Stop Your Sobbing,” “Tattooed Love Boys,” “Precious,” and “Brass In Pocket,” among others.

Chrissie Hynde has never been easily impressed with the pomp and circumstance of the music industry. She admitted to us that she was actually embarrassed when the Pretenders were inducted in to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame back in 2005: “I know everyone says it’s a great honor and everything, but, y’know, I got in a rock band so I’d never have to be in any kind of hall of fame. So it actually didn’t go down very well with me, but that’s just me. I’m not trying to be a household name or anything. I don’t want to be in the mainstream.”
