Local News

The following statement is from Cortland Enlarged City School District Superintendent Michael Hoose:

Threatening Post Message

At approximately 2 pm Friday afternoon we (Cortland HS) were notified by the Cortland Police Department of a threatening post on social media. This post was reported by one of our students and we appreciate their willingness to follow the rule, “see something, say something.”

The Cortland Police Department, in cooperation with the Cortland County Sheriff and other law enforcement agencies, located the suspect in a neighboring county. A search warrant was obtained and he was arrested early this morning and brought to Cortland for arraignment.

The Cortland District and community wish to thank the person who reported the threat and the quick and thorough action of our local and neighboring law enforcement agencies.

We take all threats seriously. We are committed to providing our students and staff a safe learning environment. We encourage anyone with information about this or any situation to contact the Cortland Police.

Although this situation has been resolved, we will continue to remain vigilant. Since the event in Florida you might have noticed an increased presence of law enforcement personnel around our schools. This increased presence will continue as we want everyone to know that we’re constantly looking out for everyone’s safety.
