The March Madness college basketball bracket is set. Virginia is the overall No. 1 seed, although Las Vegas oddsmakers are going with Villanova.

Arizona State, Syracuse, UCLA and Saint Bonaventure were the final at-large teams to be selected.

Among those left out were Baylor, Saint Mary’s, USC and Notre Dame. The First Four begin play Tuesday.

Class D Harrisville (Section X) beat McGraw 66-50

Class C Tully Black Knights beat Section IV Unadilla Valley 56-40 to win the Class C Regional title. Next up, the NYSPHSAA Class C semifinals against Section V Champion Northstar Christian, Friday at 1:15 pm at The Arena in Binghamton.

Westhill, the team that knocked Homer boys out of the Section III tournament, lost to Seton Hall in the State Playoffs.

The nationally fifth-ranked Cortland baseball team opened play at Case Western Reserve’s Spartan Southern Classic with a 3-2 loss to Case and a 7-3 win over Roger Williams University Saturday.

The SUNY Cortland softball team opened its season with a 3-2 loss to Ramapo College, but bounced back to pick up a 7-1 win over St. Norbert College at a tournament in Florida.

The Cortland women’s gymnastics team finished well enough at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association East Region Qualifier, to earn a berth to the NCGA Championships on March 23-24.

SUNY Cortland Senior Triple Jumper Dawan Jones and junior hurdler Storm Malone each earned All-America honors at the NCAA Division III Men’s Indoor Track and Field Championships in Alabama.

The SUNY Cortland Men’s lacrosse team not only beat the snow squalls, but Ursinus as well, 15-8 on Friday. Freshmen Jacob Rivers out of Homer scored the first goal of his career for the Red Dragons.

The Franklin & Marshall women’s lacrosse team rallied for a 9-8 overtime victory at SUNY Cortland Saturday.

The TC3 lacrosse team won its season opener at SUNY Broome, 14-9. Athony Irizarry tied a school record with 11 points in the win.

The Tompkins Cortland Community College baseball team earned its first win of the season, 7-6 over Community College of Baltimore County-Catonsville.
