Tops Friendly Markets has filed for bankruptcy.
The company CEO, Frank Curci, confirmed that move Wednesday.
Tops is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and pursuing a voluntary financial restructuring.
Bloomberg reports that sales for Tops dropped when the federal government cut food stamp subsidies, which is about 10% of annual revenues.
Curci says all the stores are open, and the company expects no impact on daily operations.
Tops is headquartered in Williamsville.
