Fire Damages Home In East Homer On Monday Afternoon

Local News

Several companies helped fight a fire in an East Homer home Monday afternoon.

Homer Fire Chief Mahlon Irish, Jr., said he could see smoking coming from the rear of the two-story building as he approached from Rt. 13. The home was just south of the intersection with East Homer-Baltimore Road.

Chief Irish told X101 News that as he arrived, a Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputy informed him that no one was in the home.

Firefighters were called at about 3:10 pm, including Homer, Cortlandville, Truxton and McGraw. Cuyler, Preble and Cortland firefighters helped cover for departments busy at the scene. The last firefighters left about three hours later.

The chief said there was fire, water and smoke damage through the home.

Two people who lived in that home received assistance from the Red Cross.
