James Taylor Recalls Recording For The Beatles’ Apple Records

Music News

2018 marks the 50th anniversary of James Taylor signing with the Beatles’ then-new Apple Records. Taylor was introduced to the band through Peter Asher of Peter & Gordon fame. Paul McCartney was famously linked to dating Peter’s sister, Jane Asher, throughout the 1960’s and Peter went on to serve as Apple Records head of A&R before becoming a massively successful record producer in the 1970’s.

Asher discovered Taylor and produced his 1968 self-titled debut for the label, which featured contributions from McCartney and George Harrison. To James Taylor the period seemed liked a dream come true: “I was signed by the Beatles in 1968 to their Apple Record label. I was a huge Beatles fans, they had a massive impact on me and what I thought I’d like to write.”
