Ithaca Police Chief Pete Tyler has shared the story of one of his officers, now deployed to serve our country.
In the Facebook post, Tyler called Officer Caprice VanAuken a hero and true patriot.
VanAuken provided some background information about herself. She was born in Rochester, lived in Newark and DeRuyter, attended SUNY Cortland, then served in the National Guard.
She also did some work at the William George Agency and the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department.
Her duty has taken her to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, on security for stuff she can’t tell us about.
She re-enlisted this fall.
All the best to Ithaca Police Officer Caprice VanAuken.
