The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office wants residents to know that someone is calling around claiming to be a Verizon employee.
The alleged employee tells a story, that your Windows program is corrupted. However, it can be fixed, if you provide a credit card number.
The instructions also warn you should stay off your phone for a couple of hours while the problem is fixed.
The advisory from the Sheriff’s office adds that the scammers use that time to use the credit card number to buy things.
Don’t fall for this.
