A rainy Wednesday faced students on the first day of school in Cincinnatus, Marathon, McGraw and Tully, the second day in Homer. Cortland is scheduled to begin classes on Thursday.
Wednesday is also Orientation Day in Groton for UPK, with a full day of classes for students in grades K-5 and a half-day for grades 6, 9 and 12. All Groton students will have a full day of classes on Thursday.
Police suggest these reminders to keep everyone safe:
- Watch for children walking to school
- Watch for stopped school buses and crossing guards
- Pay attention to reduced speed limit school traffic zones
Memorable Start for Students in Blodgett Mills
Cortlandville firefighters rushed to a home on Blodgett Mills Road at about 7:45 Wednesday morning. The call was for a school bus with kids aboard stopped with wires on it. Everyone stayed put and firefighters quickly realized the wires were a phone line to a home. (The kids will need a better excuse than that to miss the first day of school!) The bus was quickly sent on its way.
