Legislators May Consider Flow Control Vote For County Trash

Local News

During the day Thursday, Cortland County Legislators are questioning department heads on their budgets for next year.

The hearings are scheduled to run most of the day at the County Office Building.

The legislature also meets Thursday night at 6.

One item facing lawmakers could be a vote on enacting flow control to help the money-losing county landfill.

Flow control means any trash picked up in Cortland County has to go to the Cortland County Landfill, at whatever price the lawmakers set.

Greg Leach runs a Cortland-based trash hauling company. He tells X101 that a few years ago, he built a transfer station so he could prepare full loads of trash to truck to landfills offering the best prices, to keep his costs and what he charges to customers as low as possible.

Leach feels legislators aren’t helping business and hopes people show up at the legislature meeting which begins at 6.
