Alice M. Coates, 85, of Redwood Ave., Cortland, passed on Wednesday, April 29, 2015 in the Groton Community Health Care Center.

She was born October 26, 1929 in Detroit, MI, the only child of the late Otis and Marion Stevens Frank.

Alice was a hard worker her entire life, always putting the needs of her family before hers. She had been a housekeeper, worked in the school cafeteria, and was the secretary at Monks Trucking. She worked many years as an Insurance Broker, retiring from Tanner-Ibbotson Insurance Co.

Alice was a longtime member of the Homer United Methodist Church. She was very active with the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #222 of Homer and the Cortland City Chapter #591, where she had served as Matron. She was also a member of the Order of the Amaranth and the Rebekah Lodge. She also enjoyed her Sunday afternoons watching NASCAR.

Surviving are her three children, Douglas E. Coates of Cortland; Kirk T. Coates (Maura Caughey) of Oswego and Lynnette (Matthew) Stoyell of Moravia; five grandchildren, Brendan Coates, Dillon Coates, Mollie (Billy) Crocker, Patrick Stoyell and Scott Stoyell as well as two loving great-grandchildren, Tucker and Madyson Crocker.

Her husband, Donald E. Coates, predeceased her in 1999.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with Pastor John Aukema officiating. Interment will follow in Cold Brook Valley Cemetery.

Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday afternoon from 1 p.m. until the time of the funeral.
