The Yankees got over Masahiro Tanaka’s shaky start to beat the Jays, 11-5. Game three tonight at 7:07.

A group led by former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has reportedly ended its bid to buy the Miami Marlins. That leaves groups led by former Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter and by South Florida businessman Jorge Mas still in the mix.

Major League Baseball will allow nicknames on the backs of jerseys August 25-27, calling it the Players Weekend. The Yankees have never even had players’ LAST names on their jerseys, so they’ll really be breaking tradition, some of these nicknames: THE MISSILE (Aroldis Chapman), KRAKEN (Gary Sanchez), D. DAWG (Dellin Betances), TODDFATHER (Todd Frazier), and A-ARON (Aaron Hicks).

The Rangers beat the Mets, 5-1 for a two-game split. The Mets are at the Phillies at 7:05.

The Mets have reportedly traded Jay Bruce to the Cleveland Indians. Bruce is a three-time All-Star with the Cincinnati Reds.

The Syracuse Chiefs lost to the Toledo Mud Hens 7-3. The Chiefs are at the Indianapolis Indians at 7:05.

The Binghamton Rumble Ponies beat the Erie SeaWolves 4-3. The Ponies host Erie today at 6:30.

The Atlanta Falcons signed running back Devonta Freeman to a five-year contract extension worth $41.25 million. Freeman was due $1.8 million on the last year of his rookie deal this season.

Last night’s NFL preseason game between the Texans and Panthers was a big one for Houston offensive tackle David Quessenberry. It was Quessenberry’s first NFL game in three years after being diagnosed with non-Hodgkin T-lymphoblastic lymphoma. Quessenberry finished his last chemotherapy treatment in early April and had been on the Texans’ non-football illness list since 2015.

The battle for Los Angeles between the Rams and Chargers has already heated up. Neither team has played a home game in Los Angeles yet, but a fight broke out during a joint practice yesterday after Trumaine Johnson pushed Dontrelle Inman following a pass interference call. (See here)

The NBA has announced that the Brooklyn Nets will play the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat in regular-season games in Mexico in December.

Jontay Porter has announced that he’ll reclassify and join his older brother Michael and his father at Missouri this season.

Hendrick Motorsports has officially announced that William Byron will be the driver of its No. 5 NASCAR Cup car next season, replacing Kasey Kahne. The 19-yar-old Byron has three wins as a rookie in the Xfinity Series this year.

The Nevada Athletic Commission will vote on whether or not to allow Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor to wear 8-ounce gloves for their fight next week. Both McGregor and Mayweather want the lighter weight after previously agreeing to 10-ounce gloves.
