Some Village Offices Could Return To Town Hall Next Month

Local News

Some of the Homer Village office services to the public may move back to the Town Hall as soon as next month.

Mayor Hal McCabe realizes the rest of the move may take a while until cost estimates are lowered.

“That’s for them (the town) to decide what they’re gonna do, but we’re excited that we’re going to start the process of moving over there now,” said McCabe. “We should have the majority of the office functions over there within a month.”

A preliminary estimate of project costs reached six-figures, and Homer Town Supervisor Fred Forbes will focus on reducing that.

“The figures for the renovations were higher than we figured, anywhere from four-to-five hundred thousand dollars,” said Forbes. “So, we’re working at that to see what we can do to bring it in line.”

Forbes plans to re-examine options and costs for the return of the village to the Town Hall.

“We’ll continue with that process and hope for an outcome that’s good for the taxpayers of the Town and Village of Homer.”

Also at its monthly meeting Wednesday night, Village of Homer Trustees approved a new local law, called the Red X Law. It amends the fire code to protect first responders, by fining anyone who removes the big Red X signs that go on buildings deemed unsafe to enter.
