USDA Weekly NYS Crop Weather: Planting Is Still Behind Schedule

Local News

The USDA’s weekly crop weather report for New York State shows we had three nice days in a row last week when farmers could put in some long days to catch up on planting and the hay harvest.

Cortland County’s Jennifer Doty, reported no dry hay yet, only haylage and bailage.

Doty reported that pastures are growing faster than animals can keep up and they are muddy.

Planting remains behind schedule.

Many acres need to be tilled and planted, and some crops may not get in, according to reports from Cayuga County.
