Local News

Congratulations to State Sen. James Seward who received the SUNY Cortland’s Presidential Champion of Excellence Award during Commencement ceremonies Saturday.

The college praised Seward for securing tens of millions of state tax dollar funding for campus projects and notes Seward was only the third person ever to receive this honor.

Senator Seward also let us know that the senate passed legislation he co-sponsors which increases the penalties for killing or injuring a working police dog or police horse.

The bill sets the penalty for injuring a police dog or police horse as a class E felony and increases the penalty for killing a police animal from a class E to a class D felony.
