Weekly USDA NY Crop Report: Corn Planting Has Begun

Local News

The USDA’s weekly New York Crop report shows normal conditions in all counties except for six in the lower Hudson Valley which are considered “abnormally dry.”

Temperatures last week ranged from 3-11 degrees above normal and some areas got more than an inch of rain, so this combination improved growing conditions, except for areas wetter than others, which limited field work.

Jennifer Doty, the Cortland County reporter, sees pastures and hay have grown immensely, although it’s still soggy underneath. Doty reports that small grains and seeding are going in and corn planting has begun.
