Despite booking some top notch big name acts for the Chevy Court free stage at the state fair, the fair is having a tough time getting bands for the grandstand stage.
So far, only one concert has been booked for the main stage at the fair. Eric Church will play the opening night of the fair.
The other 11 days of the fair’s 12-day run are without a headline entertainer.
Fair officials say rising costs of entertainment and scheduling conflicts have made it tougher to book bands this year.
The challenges come as the fair and Onondaga County officials are under pressure to create a smooth transition from hosting major acts during the annual fair at the Grandstand to a new amphitheater on Onondaga Lake.
Among the band playing at the free stage Snoop Dogg, Melissa Etheridge, Rick Springfield, and Everclear. Teen heartthrob Nick Jonas is playing the last day of the fair, which is also dollar day.
