Travel Ban For Cortland And Area County Roads

Mark Helms, Cortland County Sheriff

Cortland County Sheriff Mark E. Helms has issued a travel ban closing all roads in Cortland County except for emergency traffic from 2 pm today until 8 am Wednesday morning.

The travel ban will apply to all county, town, city and state roads in Cortland County.

Only emergency and essential personnel will be permitted on the roadways.


Sheriff Lansing Closes Road, Except for Essential Travel, as of 3:00 pm Tuesday; All County Offices Closed

Effective at 3:00 pm Tuesday, Sheriff Ken Lansing ordered roads in Tompkins County closed except for essential travel.

Travel is restricted to emergency personnel and others performing actions to protect lives, prevent incidents or protect property.

Roads are limited to travel by citizens that are coming from work or during necessary health/safety travel.

Please note that these closures are in effect until further notice.

Everyone is urged to seek out information from local media before any travel tomorrow.

Please travel cautiously.


Madison County Declares State of Emergency

Madison County has declared a state of emergency.

All roads will be closed, except for emergency traffic from 6 pm Tuesday until 6 am Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s office says the travel ban applies to all county, town, city and state roads in Madison County.

Only emergency and essential personnel will be permitted on the roadways.


No Unnecessary Travel for Cayuga County

Sheriff David Gould reports that the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office has issued a No Unnecessary Travel Advisory for all of Cayuga County.

Hazardous conditions exist, but the decision to drive is left to the discretion of the traveler.


Broome County Declares State of Emergency and Travel Ban

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar has issued a State of Emergency and has closed all roads in Broome County.

A complete travel ban is in effect for all non-essential personnel.

“With the updated forecast from the National Weather Service not likely to improve throughout the day this is the best way to ensure the safety of the people of Broome County.” said Garnar.

“Please stay off the roads for your safety and the safety of others.”


Storm Prompts State of Emergency in Chenango County

Chenango County Board of Supervisors Chairman Lawrence Wilcox has declared a State of Emergency due to the major winter storm.

In conjunction with the State of Emergency, the Travel Advisory has been replaced with a Travel Ban in effect from 2 pm Tuesday until 6 am Wednesday.
