New York State DMV investigators joined police in Albany and Cortland last Friday to check bars for underage drinkers.
“Operation Prevent” as it was called, led to 8 arrests in Albany and 25 in Cortland, of people who used fake driver licenses to buy alcohol or enter bars.
Police checked the Dark Horse, Red Jug, Stone Lounge, Hairy Tony’s and Brix.
The fake IDs were confiscated from New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Maryland and Florida.
Drinking sweeps like these in 2016 led to the seizures of 862 phony licenses and 818 arrests across the state, both record highs.
