New signage directing trucks away from Route 366 in Ithaca has been installed. The signs follow a fatal crash on the Ithaca commons last summer.
The new sign directs truck drivers approaching Ithaca from the east to stay on state Route 13 and avoid the narrow, winding and residential state Route 366.
Last June, a tractor-trailer headed down East Hill on Route 79 crashed into Simeon’s restaurant, killing Amanda Bush, 27, of Lansing, who was working behind the bar.
It is believed the driver was picking up or delivering a car in Ithaca and had taken Route 366 into the city.
In the aftermath, a task force of local, county and state officials explored ways to increase truck safety. Ideas included stepped-up law enforcement, a truck pull-off, speed reductions, and better signage.
