Heart lead singer Ann Wilson isn’t the only Wilson sister spreading her wings while the band is on hiatus — guitarist Nancy Wilson has just released “Get Loud” — the first track from her new side band, Roadcase Royale, according to Blabbermouth. The song, which was played during the Woman’s March in Austin, features lead singer and Prince bandmember, Liv Warfield, lead guitarist — and Prince protege — Ryan Waters — along with Heart members Chris Joyner on keyboards, Dan Rothchild on bass, and Ben Smith on drums. So far the band has five new songs completed and in the can.
Nancy Wilson explained, “Roadcase Royale is a side project and not a replacement for Heart. . . When I came up with the name Roadcase Royale, it was an interesting symbol to me since the big heavy duty road cases that our amps, drums and guitars travel in are much like the musicians they accompany on the road. Strong and regal looking yet all scuffed up and dented, covered in funny stickers that tell the story of a crazy traveling circus. . . It’s going to be fun to see our road cases with Roadcase Royal stenciled on the side!” The band is plotting dates for early this year.
Nancy Wilson has been playing guitar for most of her life. She recalled the moment she knew she would forever be a musician: “I got a guitar in my hands and it was. . . my guy. It was instantly my guy. I’d played piano and ukulele a little up to then, but it was like this rich, um, character of sound that was really responsive to the touch and to the intention of what you wanted it to say. And it had a lot to say on its own, the guitar.”
