Major Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young Bio Being Prepped For 2019

Music News

A definitive biography on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young is in the works from Rolling Stone contributing editor David Browne. The book, which is due out through De Capo Press in time for the group’s 50th anniversary in 2019, follows Browne’s other tomes on the era, including the critically acclaimed books Fire And Rain: The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, CSNY And The Lost Story Of 1970; and So Many Roads: The Life And Times Of The Grateful Dead. Publishers Weekly stated the bio “will be stand as the first true narrative biography ‘of a band that came to represent the highs and lows of the ’60s dream.'”

Both Graham Nash and Neil Young have published their memoirs, with David Crosby having written two volumes of his own. Stephen Stills has been hard at work on his own autobiography for the better part of the past decade. In 2008, the most in-depth CSN chronicle to date — Crosby, Stills & Nash: The Biography by writer David Zimmer and photographer Henry Diltz, received its third printing — also through De Capo.

Stephen Stills explained to us that the strength and success of the group allows their other creative outlets to flourish: “It was the one we designated when we started. It was the whole idea in the first place. . . We were trying to think of a name, so we decided to use our names and — ‘Why?’ Well, ‘cause we can use it as a mothership, y’see, and keep coming and going and doing our own things and (it) has become the most reliant.”
