Recent rain has helped improve drought conditions, especially in western New York.
However, the entire state remains under a drought watch.
Some parts of the state have a long term precipitation deficit of up to 16-inches as of the first of this month.
The DEC reduced the western New York Drought Warning to a Drought Watch after consulting with experts from the State Drought Management Task Force and Federal technical agencies.
The entire state is now currently under a Drought Watch.
