John Alvin Morehouse, 72, formerly of 42 Church St., Cortland, went to be with his Lord and precious Savior on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at the Cortland Regional Medical Center.
A lifelong area resident, he was born February 23, 1943 in Endicott, NY, a son of Eugene and Gertrude Marvin Morehouse.
As a young boy, John worked on his family’s farm where he always had chores, including watching over his younger brothers and sisters. John worked in the sanitation business and at several local diners.
He was an avid hunter and trapper, being taught to eat what God has provided, cooking meals for his family and appreciating nature.
John had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to help others in need. He was a great provider for his family, often working two jobs to provide for his loving family.
He found comfort being by the water, whether in his boat or on the shore fishing.
A loving son, brother and an awesome uncle to many, John is survived by is his mother, Gertrude Morehouse of South Otselic; his siblings, Jan (Phil) Neilson of Ceres, VA; Jean Libbey of Cortland; Judy Soule of Cortland; Marshall (Shirley) Morehouse of Marathon; Les Morehouse of South Otselic; Roger (Trish) Morehouse of Homer and Faith (Edward) Gordon of Tampa, FL as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father, Eugene Morehouse.
Services will be held privately and at the convenience of the family.
