Surprisingly, Ithaca Lags In Annual HRC Non-Discrimination Survey

Local News

Ithaca ranks above the national average, but below seven other cities in New York State according to a ranking of non-discrimination policies.

The gay rights group the Human Rights Campaign gave Ithaca a score of 74 out of 100.

HRC encourages cities to enact stronger anti-discrimination laws.

Albany, New York City and Rochester all got perfect scores.

The survey looks for non-discrimination laws, elected gay officials and a police or government LGBTQ liaison.

HRC says Ithaca lost points for not offering transgender insurance coverage to employees and for the lack of an LGBTQ police liaison or task force.
