Explosives Turn Up During Cortland Police Search

Execution of a search warrant at 57 Owego Street in Cortland was interrupted early Friday morning when Cortland Police grew concerned about what they might find.

Officers had entered the place around 6 am, and as they were looking around, they got a tip that there might be explosives in a small safe.

That ended the search for a while, to allow the Onondaga County Bomb Squad to evaluate the situation.

An X-ray determined homemade M-80 style explosives were in the safe. They were removed.

William Sabin, 36, was charged for having the illegal fireworks, marijuana, some pills and a stun gun, according to police.

He’s scheduled for a court appearance Monday.
