USDA New York is out with its monthly livestock slaughter report for August.
Statistician Blair Smith says:
- Commercial red meat production was up 21% from a year ago
- Cattle slaughter was up 10% and the average live weight was up
- Calf slaughter was up 65% from August a year ago and the average live weight was down as much as 30%. Is it a sign of trimming herds?
