Cortland Hydrant Tests Could Roil The Water

Local News

fire-hydrantThe Cortland Fire Department is testing hydrants throughout the city.

Firefighters will perform “flow” tests on the city fire hydrants in an effort to assure efficiency, determine any areas of concern and assist in future planning.

Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Friedman says that due to the additional flow and testing, residents may discover water to be slightly discolored in any area that testing has recently occurred. This would be normal and allowing your water to run for a little while should clear up any issues.

The flow testing as well as the annual inspection and testing performed by fire department personnel will run through November 1.

Both the flow testing and the annual inspection and maintenance are being done to assure that in the time of an emergency the hydrants and system work to the best of their ability and provide residents with the highest level of fire protection

Any questions or concerns can be directed to City Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Friedman at the Headquarters Fire Station at (607) 758-8380.
