Cortland, Other Area Schools Begin Classes Wednesday

Cortland City Schools began fall classes Wednesday.

Among the district’s goals this year is to again increase attendance for all students. Last year’s focus was to reduce the number of students with more than 15 absences a year by 20%. That happened.

What’s new?

  • Cortland has 45 new faces (employees) across the district to start the year
  • Students may notice 5,000 new energy saving light fixtures
  • A new sign at the Junior-Senior High School.
  • Network and phone upgrades are underway.
  • New artwork on the Jr/Sr high school gym floors
  • Fresh paint on the walls.

Cortland is preparing for a capital project to address nearly 46-million dollars worth of improvements needed across the district, as identified in a building conditions survey.

School also resumes Wednesday in:

  • McGraw, Groton, DeRuyter, Cincinnatus, Marathon
  • Dryden Wednesday, Sept. 7th for K-6 & 9, Thursday, Sept. 8th for 7-8 & 10-12
  • Ithaca Wednesday, Sept. 7th for K-6 & 9, Thursday, Sept. 8th for all
