The state DOT provided WXHC with a brief update on the Rt 281 rebuilding project.
Drivers have likely noticed progress on the project.
As an example, the western side of the new bridge over Dry Creek (by Meldrim’s) should open soon after Labor Day, according to DOT spokesperson Gene Cilento.
Cilento informed WXHC that the widening of 281 is “done” from Kinney Gulf Road to Fisher Avenue – curbing and sidewalks in, along with what he called the “binder” course of paving (not the top surface).
Once drivers are again using the west half of the road, crews will focus on getting curbing finished on the eastern side.
The 281 project is still on track to be 90% finished by mid-November, according to the DOT.
