The U.S. Drought Monitoring website indicates we’ve reached “extreme drought” levels near Cortland County.
That includes Dryden, Freeville, Etna, Lansing, and points to the south and west.
“Extreme drought” could lead to major crop losses, and widespread water shortages or restrictions are likely.
Much of Cortland County is listed in as a “severe drought” area along with many counties along the south shore of Lake Ontario, and west of Rt 81.
Cortland, Tully, Skaneateles are included in that classification.
“Severe drought” means crop losses are likely and some water shortages are or will soon occur.
Friday morning, Cornell University issued a statement indicating it expects to have plenty of water for students who return this week.
