Cortland Police Warn of Microsoft Phone Scam

Local News

Cortland Police have issued a warning out about phone scams involving Microsoft and computer updates.

Police say they’ve heard from several people who received calls from someone claiming to be from Microsoft. The caller asks for information to fix computer issues or update software.

Police warn residents not to give callers access to their computers or personal information as this is part of a scam.

Victims could find malicious software on their computers, be billed for fake services, or have their identity stolen.

They also remind residents that Microsoft and their partners never make unsolicited phone calls about computer service.
