NY Crop Report Shows Concern For Rain

Local News

Central New York could use some rain.

This week’s USDA crop report shows producers are concerned for conditions of corn, soybeans, and vegetables.

  • Re-growth of hay is limited.
  • The wheat, oats and barley harvest is nearly complete.
  • Some fruit growers have had to irrigate to help the size of their apple crop.
  • The cherry, peach, raspberry and blueberry picking continues.

The USDA reporter for Cortland County, Jennifer Doty says she’s hearing more reports of crops lost and farmers hauling water from creeks so they don’t add to the strain on their wells.
