Greg Rowe is a letter carrier in Cortland.
Saturday, on “Stamp Out Hunger Day,” Rowe will have some extra lifting again this year.
Rowe, the local letter carriers union steward, reminds that your letter carrier may leave a plastic bag at your mailbox.
If you wish, donate canned goods and non-perishable items to leave by your mailbox – before Saturday’s mail.
The collection will go directly to local food cupboards.
“We’ve had great response in the past in Cortland and in Homer. People tend to be very generous. You’ve seen our postal trucks that we drive around. I’ve had mine so full of food that my boss had to get the food out so I could finish delivering the mail.”
The food goes to nine local food cupboards who can use it this time of year.
Greg says he has been a letter carrier for 17 out of the 24 years that the union’s been collecting and sharing food.
