Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is pushing bipartisan legislation to help service members and families forced to move when their duty stations change.
“The Military Family Stability Act would give our military families more flexibility and resources when they move,” said the Senator during a conference call with reporters.
“Our bill is designed to give spouses time to wrap up their work while finding new employment. It would allow students to finish the semesters.”
The Military Family Stability Act will be part of the upcoming National Defense Authorization Act which is to be debated this month.
Gillibrand says the bill provides up to six months of support to military families.
“But for the many military families who right now don’t have the flexibility they need, this bill would relieve a major burden from their lives.”
The Senator adds that our military families give up so much for our country, we owe them this added flexibility when members of the military, guard and reservists are transferred.
