Tompkins County Sheriff’s Investigators have released additional information in connection with a crash involving a Groton Police Patrol Car.
Just before 3 o’clock Sunday, a Groton Police Officer was responding to a call on Route 222 in the village.
The investigation revealed that the officer was headed westbound when the patrol car struck the rear of a vehicle also in the westbound lane. The other vehicle was attempting to turn left onto Williams Street when it was struck.
After striking the vehicle the patrol car left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The operator of the vehicle that was struck was taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury. The officer was uninjured. Route 222 was shut down for several hours and some homes lost power and phone service.
So far no charges have been filed and the officer involved has not been identified.
