Cortland Woman Admits Theft, Faces New Indictment in Tompkins County

A Cortland County woman accused of stealing over $45 hundred dollars from an Ithaca dentist office where she was employed has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge.

41-year-old Sheila Shattuck of Cortland has admitted to stealing money from her former employer, Fall Creek Family Dentist. She was accused of is deleting cash transactions from accounting records and entering false credit card payments to hide the thefts

She pleaded guilty Tuesday to a single misdemeanor charge of petit larceny.

Shattuck was originally indicted on 16 counts including first-degree falsifying business records and one count of third-degree grand larceny. Her trial was set to begin Tuesday.

Shattuck, who has a prior felony conviction, faces a second, six-count indictment that includes charges of offering a false instrument for filing, forgery and criminal possession of a forged instrument.

Shattuck will be sentenced on March 17th. She is free on $3,000 cash bail. No court date has been scheduled yet related to the second indictment.
