Volunteer Fire Association Says Their Services Save Billions

Local News

The State’s Volunteer Firefighters Association is putting a price tag on just what their service is worth to communities.

FASNY, the Fireman’s Association of the State of New York, commissioned a report that says volunteer fire departments save about $3.87-billion a year for communities across the state.

Cortland County has 11 volunteer fire departments.

FASNY has been very focused the past five years on this issue with its Recruit NY campaign.

Coming up this weekend hundreds of volunteer fire firefighters and their families will be in Cortland County for the Annual Firefighter Winter Games. More than 300 firefighters from 32 fire departments across the state are expected to take part in the event.

The games allow fire departments to compete against one another and hone their training skills.

The event is organized by the Firemen’s Association of the State of New York and co-sponsored by the Cortland County Firemen’s Association.
