The American Red Cross is installing new smoke alarms for free.
It’s part of the organization’s new Home Fire Campaign aimed at reducing the number of deaths and injuries caused by home fires by 25 percent over the next five years.
The organization is visiting homes in the community with volunteers replacing smoke alarms and providing fire safety information.
They recommend families check their existing smoke alarms and practice fire drills at home. This past fall volunteers went door to door in the Penguin Trailer park in Cortlandville installing new smoke detectors in homes there.
