Cortland Police Looking For Suspect Who Assaulted a Senior Citizen on Main Street

Cortland Police are looking for a suspect who assaulted a woman on Main Street yesterday.

Cortland Police say just after 10am Tuesday morning, a group of local seniors were walking near the intersection of Clayton Ave. and Main Street when an unknown suspect approached the group and struck one of the women without warning or provocation.

The 72-year-old victim sustained a cut to her head and was treated and released. The suspect fled the area on foot and was last seen running West on Tompkins Street.

He is described as a white male in his mid to late 20s. He is about 5’10” tall, has a slender build, and may have thin blond or red facial hair. The suspect was wearing a dark-colored hoodie and blue denim pants.

Police believe he either lives in the South Main Street area or frequents the area.

Business surveillance video, prior to the assault, shows the suspect in this area.

The Police Department is in the process of developing clear still photographs from the surveillance video.

These photographs will be made public as soon as they are available.
