Following the deadly terrorist attacks in Paris last week Republican Congressman Richard Hanna is joining lawmakers in calling for a halt in the country accepting Syrian refugees.
Hanna, who represents a large portion of Central New York, including Cortland County, issued a statement yesterday calling on the Obama Administration to immediately halt the admission of additional Syrian refugees into the country until it can verify that a thorough and transparent process is in place to fully screen every individual for terrorist ties.
Hanna cited an October FBI report that says the agency does not have the resources to adequately screen incoming Syrian refugees.
The preliminary investigation into the Paris attacks suggests that at least one of the attackers had immigrated to the country after being rescued from a sinking raft while fleeing from Syria to Greece.
Hanna went on to criticize the Obama Administration for what he feels is a failure to articulate a coherent direction forward in Syria and against the Islamic State.
