Health officials are working with Ithaca College to determine the mystery illness that claimed the life of a student.
The college announced Wednesday that Shannon Sakosits, a junior from New Jersey had died following a brief illness. The college is looking to speak with others who may have had contact with Sakosits.
The Tompkins County and New York State Health Departments are trying to determine the cause of Sakosits death. Preliminary testing has ruled out a bacterial infection as the cause.
The college wants to talk to anyone that shared drinking containers or eating utensils; exchanged oral secretions or had any similar exposure with Sakosits between Oct. 28 and Nov. 9.
A memorial service will be held on campus tonight to honor the young woman.
