The New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services has recently announced the graduation of 37 new firefighters from the State’s Recruit Firefighter Training program in Montour Falls.

The training program took place at the Office of Fire Prevention and Control’s Academy of Fire Science. The graduates came from 17 fire departments within the state, and represented the Academy’s 87th Recruit Firefighter Training class.

“I extend my hearty congratulations to today’s graduates on their achievement, and I wish them well as they are well-prepared to help protect New Yorkers from fire danger and other emergencies,” Commissioner Bray said.

The training program is a 15-week residential program that provides extensive fire service training in an environment like a full-time fire department. All graduating firefighters will now serve as career firefighters in their respective departments.

For the Cortland area, two firefighters graduated from the class, Andrew Niver and Nathan Stockwin for the City of Cortland Fire Department. For the Ithaca area, Keven Morse and Trey Sincock graduated and will now serve in the Ithaca Fire Department and then Joshua Henry for Ithaca Airport Fire.
