Cortland, Preble and Virgil fire departments are included in the latest round of federal grants allocated by the FEMA Assistance to Firefighters program.
The largest recipient of the three is the Preble Volunteer Fire Department, which was awarded over $82k.
Virgil Fire District will receive just under $48k and the city of Cortland another $32k – that’s on top of the city F.D.’s share of a $71k CARES Act grant announced last month.
It was also announced at the end of July that Tully Fire District was awarded a $90k FEMA grant.
Today’s awards were announced by Rep. Anthony Brindisi, as part of an overall $1.2M for fire departments across New York’s 22nd District.
“Our brave firefighters continued to serve and protect our communities throughout this pandemic, and we owe them a debt of gratitude for their service,” Brindisi said. “These grants will help firefighters across our district protect themselves and strengthen their departments so they can continue their essential work. I will keep fighting for additional funding and COVID-19 relief for our communities.”
