Area crews rescued three dogs from a house fire this morning on Route 41, just outside the village of McGraw.
Firefighters got called to the scene at 8:22 am.
They arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the chimney and inside of the residence. At that point, they forced their way in and deployed two hose lines into an active fire in the basement.
Three canines were located, then treated by way of pet oxygen masks donated to CVFD in 2018 by Underground Fence of the Finger Lakes. The dogs later rejoined their family and will receive follow-up treatment.
Responding were Cortlandville, McGraw and Homer Fire Departments, along with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office and Cortland County SPCA. All personnel were clear of the scene by 9:48 am.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Cortland County Fire Coordinators Office and NYS Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
