$200K Awarded to Cortland County Department of Emergency Response & Communications by NY Senator Webb
New York State Senator Lea Webb (SD-52) has announced $200,000 in state funds for the Cortland County Department of Emergency Response & Communications towards the purchase of two new firefighting air compressors. Air compressors refill air bottles that are used by firefighters when they’re fighting a fire and ensure that firefighters have clean fresh air.
The two new air compressors will significantly improve fire departments operation capacities throughout Cortland County. One of the new compressors will be located at the Cortland County Regional Training Center behind the Cortlandville Fire Station. The second will be located at the Marathon Fire Station, replacing a 20+ year old compressor that is currently located there.
“The fire service in Cortland County appreciates Senator Webb’s unwavering support to public safety. The purchase of this equipment helps the fire service in Cortland County get to modern safety standards and lowers the burden on the local property tax payers. Senator Webb’s assistance cannot be overstated in helping the safety and well-being of our fire service personnel. Her support will provide a lasting impact in Cortland County for the years to come.”
Said Scott Roman, Director of the Cortland County Department of Emergency Response & Communications.
The locations of the compressors are significant. The one located at the training center will help facilitate training evolutions using air packs during live burn rotations. It will also teach new recruits on the skill of filling self-contained breathing apparatus bottles and reduce the out of service time it takes refilling for firefighters.
A new compressor at the Marathon Fire Department will help firefighters in the southern part of Cortland County reduce their travel time it would’ve taken to refill their air bottles after use.
