Two young men were arrested this week for stealing a car from a business in the town of Cortlandville.
Officers with the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department responded just past midnight Sunday (October 25).
Their investigation determined 20-year-old Daniel Layne, of East Avenue in Cortland, and 24-year-old Ryan Auzans, listed as homeless, had gained access to a vehicle in the parking lot and attempted to leave the property with it.
Soon after, the vehicle was found parked a short distance away from the business.
The suspects were located nearby and tried to flee on foot, but were soon caught up to and apprehended without further incident.
Both are charged with:
- Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (D Felony)
- Conspiracy in the Fifth Degree (A Misdemeanor)
- Two Counts – Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the Fifth Degree (A Misdemeanor)
They are expected to appear in the Town of Cortlandville Court on November 16.
